Target Gift Card: Case Study

I had always dreamed of designing a Target gift card, so I took the initiative to find the Art Director’s contact information and sent over some ideas. To my delight, they loved my work and invited me to create concepts for their winter gift card collection.

Stay on Target

The design brief was inspiring with thoughtful art direction that set the tone. Plus, I loved how they threw shade at Walmart.

Target Acquired

This is the original concept for a Spring Thank You card that I shared with Target’s Art Director, the one that put me on their radar.

Kind of Sketchy

A few of my original thumbnail sketches that were chosen to develop further.

The Final Cut

The final die-cut version is shown below.

The Art Director asked me to explore incorporating die-cut elements into both designs.

The Verdict is In

Although both designs tested well, the Snowboarding Bear design was chosen to go into production.  A full, non-diecut image was used for online gift cards, die-cut version below.
